Vesicular Lesions Herpes

The early recognition of genital herpes symptoms and prompt therapy with an antiviral treatment significantly increases the chance of preventing or averting the development of painful vesicular lesions, according to a new study published in the latest edition of the journal Sexual Transmitted Infections.

While the researchers found that there was no difference between 3 and 5 days of treatment in reducing episode duration or the development of lesions, prompt treatment with valaciclovir was found to prevent an outbreak of vesicular lesions. The researchers' analysis demonstrated that valaciclovir treatment within 24 hours of signs and symptoms of a genital herpes recurrence decreased the odds of vesicular lesions by up to 44%.
